Smoothies...YUM

Don't go over budget...but if you do have a few dollars to spare sometimes it's
worth buying a few extra items of things you know you will use to save in the long run.

The other week I found my favourite yoghurt on special (it's an organic natural yoghurt usually around $7 a tub) for almost 1/2 price, so I bought a few extra tubs (ps. I did the same with organic almond meal that was 50% off).  Now knowing that I can't physically eat that much yoghurt before expiry I decided to make a huge batch of smoothie cubes.

Yoghurt freezes really well...try freezing it plain or mixing it with your favourite things like banana or berries and then freezing.

On another note you can put a lollipop or paddlepop stick in the cubes (once they've been in the freezer for a little while) to make great little mini frozen yoghurt treats!

Eating Healthy on a Budget

So, I know junk and processed foods are tempting...one because they seem cheap and two cause they seem convenient but you can eat well on a budget with minimal processed foods involved.

The key is being prepared...do yourself a spread sheet of every meal, snack and beverage, the ingredients involved and quantities...and prepare to be a little flexible so that when you go to that little fruit guy and he has an amazing deal on sweet potato but no normal potatoes you can change it up a little :)

Second go out and find those little fruit guys and butchers - THEY ARE SO MUCH CHEAPER AND HAVE THE BEST PRODUCE!!!!

And third...HAVE FUN have a couple of hours where you prepare the meals or parts of meals for the week, fortnight or month...I try to do monthly.  There are plenty of jobs the kids can do like make sausages and make butter!!!

Got to get making sauce for the lasagne...yummmm but will post some photos and more tips tonight xxx
